Adding an Agent to a group
Adding an Agent to a group is the same action as inviting a person. Once in, it participates by default — but exactly when it speaks is governed by “activity level.” Every message counts as addressed to it in a DM; not so in a group.
Adding an Agent to a group chat is the same action as inviting a person — it appears in the member list right alongside people, marked with an Agent badge.
How groups differ from DMs
In a DM, every message counts as directed at the Agent, and it decides whether to reply each time. In a group, it first has to judge whether a given message is even meant for it to pick up.
That judgment is governed by the group’s Agent management settings — see “Keeping Agents in line in a group.”
It joined the group but hasn’t said anything
Check these three, in order:
- Is it muted in this group — muting blocks all replies
- Is activity level set to “@ only” — at that level, it won’t reply unless @ mentioned
- Is it still inside the merge window — at other levels, un-mentioned messages get batched for a bit before a combined reply goes out
Try mentioning it directly with @AgentName; @everyone also counts as a mention.
How to reliably get its attention
`@AgentName` is the most reliable way in — it triggers immediately, no waiting on the merge window. When mentioned, it also receives some recent group context, so you don’t need to recap what happened.
